Emergency Response Training - General Occupant

The General Occupant course equips the participant with knowledge of fire prevention, building emergency procedures, reporting and immediate actions required from building occupants in the event of an emergency.This course is designed for all building occupants, regardless of position or rank, and is the first step to becoming a part of the building's Emergency Control Organisation (ECO).


Course Description

Safety is everyone’s responsibility.  When it comes to an emergency both the prevention and an effective response requires decisive action from all occupants within the building.

The General Occupant course equips the participant with knowledge of fire prevention, building emergency procedures, reporting and immediate actions required from building occupants in the event of an emergency.

This course is designed for all building occupants, regardless of position or rank and is the first step to becoming a part of the buildings Emergency Control Organisation (ECO).


Course Content

This course is aimed at the General Occupant. During this course, participants will gain knowledge and understanding of fire safety, emergency prevention, emergency procedures, alarm signals, alarm codes and how to respond to a workplace emergency.

At the completion of this course, participants will be able to demonstrate skills in hazard identification, alarm notification and general occupant emergency response.

Topics include:

  • Overview of Australian Standards, WHS Legislation, the Building Code and other Legislation
  • Fire and Emergency prevention for general structures
  • Emergency Colour Codes as per AS3745
  • Overview of Building Emergency Systems and Alarms
  • Reporting of incidents to the Emergency Control Organisation
  • General role of the Emergency Planning Committee
  • Emergency Response Procedures for General Occupants
  • Evacuation Procedures for General Occupants
  • Emergency Points, their location, use and importance

Course Duration

The course is delivered over a 1 hour period.


Delivery mode

Training is delivered face to face including both theory and practical components, with a strong emphasis on the practical application of skills.


Award and Recognition

Successful participants will be awarded a Statement of Training.


Prerequisites

There are no pre requisites for this course.

This course is the prerequisite training for Emergency
Response Warden and Chief Warden certification.
